Mr. Philip Ray is an experienced mediator and arbitrator with his own International Dispute Resolution services firm, Phil Ray IDR, in Erlangen, Germany, started after his retirement as senior counsel for Siemens AG. Phil specializes in international commercial disputes involving at least one German-speaking party. With his native U.S. English and full professional fluency of German, Phil is a: member of the International Mediation Institute’s Users Council and Independent Standards Commission; co-editor of the forthcoming Journal of Technology in International Arbitration (Juris Publishing); and member of the Board of Advisors of the Dean Rusk Center for International Law and Policy. Phil has authored several publications on international commercial arbitration and mediation and enforcement of international contracts. Since 2009, Phil has actively supported or coached teams from Georgia (USA), Germany and Iran for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and from Germany for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot.
One of the most enthusiastic supporters of Arbitrator Intelligence (AI), Phil has a demonstrated commitment to increasing the transparency and efficiency of international arbitration. He has been instrumental in spreading the word about AI in its early stages by collaborating with his international dispute resolution contacts in Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and USA (Georgia).
